Report: After 7 October 2023: Online antisemitism in Denmark’s public debate on Facebook
This report examines the scale and nature of online antisemitism in Denmark following the terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza. It is a follow-up to a previous study covering May 2021 to May 2023, and aims to provide actionable insights for civil society, authorities, and digital platforms on how and when antisemitism intensifies in the public comment section on Facebook.
This follow-up study analyses 21.4 million Facebook comments across media and political pages and identifies 69,012 comments mentioning Jews or Jewish identity. Of these, 10,189 are classified as antisemitic (9,988 occuring after October 7).
The report identifies three key findings:
A sevenfold increase in antisemitic comments per month compared to 2021–2023,
A 50% rise in antisemitism in Jewish-related comments
A shift towards more explicit hate—including dehumanisation, Holocaust denial and calls for violence.
83% of all antisemitic comments appear on mainstream media pages, making the phenomenon visible in the very arenas that shape public debate.
The report offers concrete insight into when spikes occur and how narratives travel—intended to support prevention efforts across civil society, authorities and platforms.
