Report: These European parliamentarians shape the political conversation on Facebook

In this report, we examine how members of the European Parliament engage voters and shape policial discourse on social media. Analyzing more than 790,000 posts on Facebook between 2019-2023, we conclude that nationalist and far-right MEPs are dominating the digital conversation and rallying supporters most effectively. We also conclude that European digital support for Ukraine is rapidly declining compared to 2022, and that a new strong movement against the green transition is on the rise.

This report takes a close look at the varied strategies of MEPs, with a special focus on these emerging movements and their digital methods. The digital engagement scene for MEPs is constantly shifting, underscoring the need for agile and innovative strategies. In the social media arena, political influence has never been more critical. MEPs' digital impact is set to shape not just the upcoming election but also the direction of European politics in the years to come.
